i don’t like it.
i’ll admit, as a proud macbook pro owner, i knee-jerked into alarmist mode, knowing full well the devestating capability that steve jobs & apple have when it comes to making your freshly purchased toys obsolete. thankfully, i had good people around me to snatch me back into reality.
HOWEVER.
why, apple?
i dunno.
first of all, checking the physical specs:
Size and weight
- Height:
- 0.16-0.76 inch (0.4-1.94 cm)
- Width:
- 12.8 inches (32.5 cm)
- Depth:
- 8.94 inches (22.7 cm)
- Weight:
- 3.0 pounds (1.36 kg)
other than that…what’s it bringing to the table?
one thing i hate that tech companies do so often is repackage a product. or even worse, downscale a product and THEN repackage it. no technological advancements, no special reasons to go for this new thing, except for a shiny new shell. a smaller case. the ability to slide my new macbook inside an interoffice envelope.
as Paul Boutin mentions in his write up ” Why I’m dissapointed in apples new ultraslim laptop.” , it’s nice looking, it’s cool, it’s really, REALLY small, but it’s missing so many things that would make it a worthwhile cross/upgrade.
i dunno. i’ not interested in the least, and although i imagine i’m not the target demo for this computer, i don’t see the draw as far as anyone with any semblance of a budget would be concerned.
i sound mad.
i’m not mad.
just thinking aloud.
