if it ain’t one thing…

so i made an appointment last friday, after work, to go see my cousin and help him get a grip of FL Studio. since i was leaving straight from my job, i had my macbook with me.

in the process of helping him out, i demonstrated some basic sampling techniques on the macbook.

i returned home, not 45 minutes after having shown him the basics, and tried to use my macbook.

it started, and all i got was the grey boot screen. power down, power back up.

nothing.

i’m incredulous at this point– i’ve only owned the macbook since the middle of august– and i decide to shut down and try again in the morning.

morning comes, i reboot, and it’s more of the same shit. i mount up and take it to the local apple specialists, and they agree to look at it, though at first glance it appears to them to be a hard drive failure. they break down the costs. basic diagnostic is $47.50. limited warranty is still in effect so a new hard drive will be covered.

data recovery is at least $190, just to TRY. no guarantee that they will recover ANYthing. if they are successful, it’s another 60 or 70 bucks. son.

i’m so hurt. there’s alot of shit on that h/d that a nigga had to EARN.

and i mean, wtf? i can’t get a solid 6 months out of the shit before it completely conks out?

from the phone, to this.

unbelieveable.

anyway. exactly one week til i write multi-thousand dollar check and hand it over to the leasing agency, finalize my lease and get my keys. moving’s gonna be a bitch, but i’m ready to embark and get the proverbial ball rolling.

hopefully i can have all my equipment at the ready and on & popping before then. i need that shit to start up without a hitch.

i’m halfway considering a new PC, something fast and furious, to complement everything else. i know my electric bill is gonna be crazy, but if my calculations are correct, it’s gonna be worth it’s weight.

that’s all for now. apple’s fucking pissing me off. lemme go call these fuckers back and tell them to put the new drive in.

fuckin’ fuck.

been so long. © anita baker

i hate using song titles/lyrics as captions, but it’s apt. so, whatever.

it has been a minute. life has been in a considerably constant state of upheaval, and i’ve had to take some time to stay on top of things, sort some stuff out.

tech update:

i got a new phone.

palm treo 755p / sprint.

same plan as ever (i aint givin’ this one up unless somebody hits me off with that good SERO)

but new phone– $FREE.

how do i do it? sold not told, my niggas.

actually, nah. here’s the situation, quite simple:

last week my treo 650 starts acting really stupid. resetting randomly. now, over the year and change that i’ve had it, it’s had its fair share of bumps & bruises, drops, etc etc. in the last 2 months i’d been fairly brutal with it, as i knew it’s lifespan was coming to a close. i expected to eventually be moving on to T-Mobile and the Blackberry Curve before the year was out.

but not just yet.

the resetting frenzy made it virtually impossible to use. so, after some fiddling and tinkering, and against better judgement, i walked over to the sprint store downtown and dropped it off to be looked at. came back the next day and they’ve written up a ticket for me to receive a new 755p with the trimmings.

some upgrade.

i won’t get into too much detail about the hellish experiences i had trying to get my PowerVision/EVDO shit working, but to sum it up quickly, HOURS on the phone with spring AND palm support staff, numerous mid-hold dropped calls,  3 visits to an absolutely inept sprint store tech staff, and the eventuality being that they actually gave me a crap phone that wouldn’t connect to the internet, and made me deal with it for 4 days.

hoes.

anyway, after all is said and done i finally get a working phone (stll had todo some tweaking to get the net working as it should) and it ends up being solid. at this point, palm is notorious for not updating Palm OS like, EVER. to say the styling is long in the tooth is to say yao ming is above average height.

but, by the same token, the functionality is rock solid and kills, say, a windows mobile at almost every turn. if they could keep the function and just update the form a tad, they’d run shit.

since finally getting the phone up to speed with how i used my 650, it’s been very good. the EVDO is great. not FiOS by any means, but it’s quick as hell. streaming media is very dope. it’s faster than the EDGE phones i’ve had the opportunity to use.

the phone itself feels better in hand, if just slightly, than my old 650. no visible protruding antenna, still fantastic reception (caught a text msg while standing on a subway platform at least 60 feet underground– o_O) and general navigation has been kept in tact, in line with other palm products.

all in all i like it. and for the forseeable future, the Curve’s been pushed aside.

i recommend this program to use, just because it’s a light download/footprint, and it’s so very handsome:

UltimatePhone.

check it out.

in other news, i’m about one week from finally locking down a new apartment. considering the area i’ll be in and the going rate for apartments of this size/bedroom count, i’m getting a pretty good deal. i ain’t complaining. long time in the making– halfway didn’t think the landlord was gonna give me the okay, but i got everything but the keys.

’s a good look.

next entry i’m going to start doing what i’m terrified of, puttin big plans in the air. this is the official start of the career. watch this blog, my niggas.

it’s 4:55pm on a friday.
