heat wave.

 

A period of abnormally and uncomfortably hot and usually humid weather. To be a heat wave such a period should last at least one day, but conventionally it lasts from several days to several weeks. In 1900, A. T. Burrows more rigidly defined a “hot wave” as a spell of three or more days on each of which the maximum shade temperature reaches or exceeds 90°F. More realistically, the comfort criteria for any one region are dependent upon the normal conditions of that region.

yesterday it was close to 100 degrees. today, 94. tomorrow, 90. it was like 95 on sunday.
1am this morning, it was 82. eighty two! when you’re climbing in your bed to retire for the night, that’s a real bad look.

it hasn’t been too humid, just pure, dry, stultifying heat. and my A/C is on the fritz, too? ugh.

anyway.

it’s already the 10th of July, and i haven’t gotten much accomplished in the way of procuring gainful employment in NYC. sometimes i wonder if i am even making the right decision. i realize deep down, though, that it’s cold feet and random insecurity. fuck it.

the proverbial battery in my back got recharged a bit today; between my supervisor unecessarily micromanaging me and my co-worker putting things in place to fuck me over while i was away a few weeks ago, i’m excited to leave these motherfuckers high and dry. i can’t wait to see the look on their faces when they realize i won’t be tackling all of this work they’ve so strategically positioned on me.

it’s almost exciting.

i sorta want to leave a week or 2 early and have that time to cool down (assuming that everything else will be in place by then) but i really need those checks, so most likely i won’t.

i think mentally, i’m ready as i’ll ever be. the money is really a matter of a few weeks of saving. i’ve already paid my last rent payment on my lease, and i’m due money back for my security deposit (which i had BETTER receive all of. ) things look promising.

i’ll keep you updated on the job search.

i’m going to start chronicling my move to NYC in this blog.

so.

status is as follows: i have less than 2 months until i’m not going to have a place to live. necessity breeds invention. pressure makes it pop. nah, seriously- my lease ends at my current apartment sept. 1st, and they’ve already been shopping my shit to people (at the most random times of day. i got home from work after a long day at the job plus overtime, and i see my landlord’s broker going into my place with a prospective tenant.) .

july is the month i chose to start bombarding HR offices across the big apple with resumes and cover letters, hoping to secure a week of vacation by late july/mid august so i could schedule some interviews and hopefully land some shit in that period of time. it’s actually fairly well thought out.

since i’ll most likely be spending my first months in the city in someone else’s home, i’ll be putting most of my belongings in storage. i’ve looked at some pricing for storage here in Philly, and the prices are manageable.

by the way, i should give you a bit of background on my hustle. i’m not going to nYc solely ’cause it’s a lifelong dream. most everybody in new york has/develops some sort of life purpose, where the connects and rich networking system that the city provides will unquestionably help that purpose to thrive. i’m heavily invested in music, and i’m taking the GO IN approach, a dollar and a dream mode.
